The Chicago Chapter is an organization of payroll professionals. The Chicago Chapter was established in 1983 as the first local chapter for payroll professionals in the State of Illinois. Our Board of Directors all volunteer their time and effort to promote, manage, and lead the Chicago Chapter. See the Board of Directors page for our current members. We are always looking for others to join and contribute to the success and future of the Chicago Chapter.
Chapter Purpose and Member Benefits
The Chicago Chapter exists to share and promote knowledge, professionalism, high standards of performance, networking and communication among payroll professionals in the Chicago area through offering educational events and community service activities.
Chapter Benefits include:
- Website featuring chapter educational events, compliance updates, job opportunities, networking events and vendors; links to National APA site and other key payroll websites.
- Monthly Newsletter – keeps members up to date with the latest and upcoming events.
- Education and Training – members receive admission discounts and recertification credits for attending quarterly educational sessions, FPC & CPP review and study groups and the IL Statewide conference. Presentations by payroll professionals on timely, relevant payroll topics.
- Sue Darring Education Grant – awarded to members who apply and includes membership, attendance for CPP/FPC Review class, admission to all chapter meetings, attendance to Illinois Statewide Payroll conference, and the Payroll Source.
- Access to local Members - networking with professionals in your same industry, size, software services and expertise on various payroll topics. Opportunities for you to share on various Chapter Committees.
- Participation in award-winning Chapter that is acknowledged at the APA National level for their achievements; past presidents who have also become presidents at the national level.
- Promote community service through payroll education for various groups and charity events.
- National Payroll Week – chapter participates in special events and community education events that recognize payroll professionals and their support of the payroll withholding system.

If you would like to join our extended board family, as a committee member, we welcome your energy and vision!
- COG - Community Outreach Group – Members will work on community and charitable outreach events.

Educational Committee – Arrange and/or present at various education classes, events, and meetings. This group works together to aide in meeting planning as well as seeking and recommending creditable speakers for meetings.
- Hospitality Committee – Handling registration at meetings, responsible for gathering and distributing communications provided from members at meetings to the board for follow up, and welcoming members at Chapter events.

Meeting Planning – We are looking for volunteers that can help with planning the meetings including choosing topics and finding speakers, as well as finding locations for next years meetings.

Membership – This group will help promote membership in the Chicago Chapter. Also making wellness calls to our members, working to increase membership and communications to our members.

National Payroll Week – We are looking for volunteers that can help with obtaining proclamations from the various cities and the State. We also have the privilege of talking with radio stations, newspapers and educational institutions to promote National Payroll Week.

Nomination Committee – This group of volunteers will verify the membership and credentials of those members wishing to run for election.

Public Relations – Maintain and manage the website and it's content, develop social media content, etc.

Statewide Committee – Assist with the planning and preparations for the annual Illinois Statewide Conference.

Vendor Support Committee – Contact vendors and prospective vendors for support of our organization.
